Operating System
Starent Networks’ StarOS™ operating software is a Linux-based system designed specifically for the ST-Series multimedia core platforms and XT-Series service convergence platform.
The software architecture is highly distributed dividing up the processing into distributed modular software tasks to perform specific functions and provide high availability, flexibility, and performance.
StarOS™ allows various tasks to take advantage of available processing power throughout the entire system, significantly improving overall system performance. This distribution is done automatically without operator intervention.
Distribution of the many tasks also limits the impact of process or task failures through fault containment. This ultimately provides a more robust system and significantly reduces subscriber impact.
Key Features
- Distributed design provides exceptional performance and service protection
- Fault containment significantly limits impact when a fault occurs
- Intra-chassis session recovery ensures a transparent experience for subscribers and adds higher resilience against fiber cuts and loss of power
- Dynamic hardware removal and insertion keeps the system up-and-running without major impact to subscribers
