Some of the emerging applications for these WiFi access networks are WiFi data acces and 3G offload for smartphones and data cards, Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) services for dual mode handsets and/or laptops, and WLAN based Mobile VoIP services. 

Starent provides the key functions for these WiFi applications. Starent’s Security Gateway provides full 3GPP2 PDIF and/or 3GPP PDG/TTG functionality, in order to supply intelligent WiFi access to your subscribers. Furthermore, the Security Gateway function can be integrated with other packet core functions, such as, SGSN, GGSN, and PDSN. 

For applications that require an SIP or IMS infrastructure, Starent Networks’ Session Control Manager enables a full suite of SIP-based services that provide subscribers with a rich service experience over WiFi, including video, Voice over IP (VoIP), presence, instant messaging, and many others.
