Femtocell

The forces of convergence between mobile broadband and broadband fixed operators have reached a critical phase worldwide. The strong growth in mobile voice and data combined with the rich set of multimedia capabilities available on broadband fixed networks present a potentially unique business opportunity for mobile operators.

Since inception, Starent Networks has been focused on enabling the adoption of all-IP networks through mobile broadband and multimedia solutions and services. As part of our growing set of innovations, we have expanded our product and solutions into the femtocell market. A femtocell is a small base station that sits in a consumer’s home and uses the broadband access network to backhaul the traffic to the core network.

Starent provides femtocell solutions for UMTS, CDMA, and LTE/EPC networks using either legacy circuit-based architectures, such as 3GPP Iuh, or SIP/IMS-based packet architectures.

The Starent solution consists of the femtocell/Home Node B Gateway to supply intelligent femtocell services to your subscribers. For SIP/IMS architectures, the Starent solution includes the Session Control Manager and XT-Series service convergence platform to support voice convergence, messaging convergence, supplementary services, and seamless handover between the SIP/IMS network and the macro network.
