Part of the power and flexibility of the Starent multimedia core platforms is its management system, which is easily integrated into the overall network, service, and business management systems, while offering a suite of services that enhance the network and revenue generation opportunities.
Key features include compilation of bulk statistics, protocol monitoring, session monitoring and auditing, enhancing network troubleshooting, and deep subscriber understanding.
There are multiple ways to locally or remotely manage the system using its out-of-band management interfaces. These include:
- Using the StarOS™ command line interface (CLI)
- Remote login using Telnet, and Secure Shell (SSH) access
- Secure file transfer via SFTP protocol
- Local login through the Console port
- Using the Web Element Manager application
- Provides complete Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, and Security (FCAPS) capabilities
- Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) northbound interface simplifies integration with higher-level network, service, and business layer applications using the Object Management Group's (OMG's) Interface Definition Language (IDL)
- Supports communications through 10 Base-T, 100 Base-TX, 1000 Base-TX, or 1000 Base-SX (optical gigabit Ethernet) Ethernet management interfaces
- Java-based, client-server model supports most major browsers
- Supports CORBA protocol, CORBA Secure Socket Layer (SSL) for encryption of management data, and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for fault management
